My first exposure to the Palm Pre

I stopped by my local Best Buy on Saturday to look at the new Palm Pre. First reaction: definitely different from my old Treo 750. Not quite an iPhone from a usability perspective but closer than anything I’ve tried to date. The real question is this: Will the development environment and the supported application feature-sets be as robust as that of the iPhone. Will it support a seamless convergence with digital signage. Time will tell. Will it be a sales success? Hard to say. The demand was definitely there. Not even close to the demand that I witnessed when the iPhone and iPhone 3G went on sale, but definitely better than any other phone – but then again no other phone besides the iPhone was hyped as aggressively. According to Dan Hesse, CEO of Sprint, it will take at least three months to effectively assess the phones success. We’ll see.
