In an interview with Rob Gelick, CBS Interactive’s newly appointed mobile division head, Tricia Duryee of mocoNews quoted Rob as saying: “… smartphone sales have exploded, and clearly Android and iPhone are two of the platforms where there’s a significant audience and a tailored experience is worthwhile financially. People are more engaged in those platforms, and spend more time in the app, trying out more features. There’s higher participation rates.” When asked what kind of interest he was getting from advertisers, Rob said: “We are seeing huge interest from advertisers.”
Many bloggers in the digital signage space follow the movements of CBS Outdoor and their digital signage efforts, but none, to my knowledge, follow what CBS is doing in the mobile space. With the burgeoning adoption of smartphones facilitating a convergence with digital signage, these are two divisions of CBS that should be watched carefully. If they’re not doing it now, I’m guessing that they’ll be working together at some point in the near future.
